The Czaja-McCaffrey Stent-Introducing Tracheobronchoscope is a device used to directly visualize the endolarynx, subglottis, trachea, and proximal bronchial airways. It allows for stent insertion in order to maintain patency of a constricted tracheobronchial tree. Direct visualization of the airway allows for the assessment of tracheal and bronchial stenoses that are secondary to neoplasm or other strictures, including scarring and tracheomalacia. Management of airway narrowing includes therapies to widen the airway, including serial bronchoscopic dilation or laser debulking of obstructing lesions combined with bronchial dilation. These management strategies can be performed in an effort to prepare the airway for the placement of a silastic stent.
